Little is left today but a few bricks of the Confederate Civil War Salt Works. But, standing here looking out on the old pond from which water for the salt was drawn during the war, it is easy to let your imagination draw you back in time. You can almost smell the gun powder, almost hear the sounds of the cannons on board the United States Bark "Kingfisher" anchored just offshore in St. Joseph Bay. Although the Saltworks was destroyed on that fateful day in 1862, the site has been reborn for the enjoyment of those who come to discover the Old Saltworks Cabins. Nature trails, a play fort for the kids, and mini-museum are provided for the exclusive use of our cabin guests. You can explore the pristine waters of St. Joseph Bay and enjoy the beach on the Gulf of Mexico at Cape San Blas.
